UPDATE: Kremlin is unaware of VEB’s contacts with Trump’s son-in-law

(Releads, adds paragraphs 3, 4)

MOSCOW, Mar 28 (PRIME) -- The Kremlin is unaware of any contacts between managers of Russia’s state development bank Vnesheconombank (VEB) with a son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump Jared Kushner, CEO of Kushner Companies, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

A VEB spokesperson said the bank met with the largest U.S., European and Asian banks and firms, including Kushner Companies during a road show presenting the bank’s new development strategy in 2016.

Peskov said it was an ordinary business meeting.

“Dozens of business sessions took place, and one of them involved Mr Kushner’s company,” Peskov told reporters. “This is the bank’s activity, the bank is designing a development program. Of course, the government and the Kremlin know about the program, as it is a strategically important development institution. However, routine work, let’s say, operational management, is the field exclusively belonging to the bank’s management.”

The spokesperson for the bank said that existing business practices of foreign development banks and the industry’s outlooks and trends were discussed during the negotiations.

“The meetings were held a format of road shows presenting Vnesheconombank’s development strategy until 2021 with the largest banks and the U.S. business commumity, including head of Kushner Companies Jared Kushner.”

The New York Times Magazine reported on Monday that the U.S. senators investigating “Russian ties” of the U.S. President were interested in the mass media information that Kushner had met with VEB CEO Sergei Gorkov in December.
